Voyage description

Embark on an unforgettable 5-day voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, where adventure, history, and the beauty of nature converge. From the lively streets of Ibiza to the ancient city of Cartagena and the artistic heritage of Malaga, this journey promises an enriching experience for adventurous souls and sailing enthusiasts.

Our Mediterranean adventure starts in Ibiza, famous for its rich maritime history; a vital trading post for the Phoenicians and Romans, who recognized its strategic location in the Mediterranean.

Before embarking consider the pristine beaches and diving opportunities of Formentera, a taste of paradise just a short hop from Ibiza, known for its rich marine life, including diverse fish species, and vibrant soft coral reefs. Conservation efforts have helped preserve this remarkable ecosystem.

We set sail north for the ancient port of Cartagena, in the Mediterranean's Costa Cálida, prized since Carthaginian times. Thanks to its strategic position on the Murcia coast, it has been inhabited by several cultures, each leaving a distinctive mark on its artistic heritage.

This maritime enclave, originally an Arabic enclave was conquered by the Carthaginians and Romans, and later played a key role in the War of Succession and the Peninsular War. The Muralla del Mar ('Sea Wall'), built by Charles III (18th century), delimits the old quarter. The National Museum of Underwater Archaeology reveals aspects of naval construction, trade and navigation since ancient times. The entrance to the city centre is dominated by the modernist Town Hall, juxtaposed by the Old Cathedral on the Camino del Parque, the oldest place of worship in Cartagena. Roman splendour abounds including El Molinete, the Morería Baja colonnade and the Byzantine Wall, and the Augusteum Roman forum.

Heads filled with sights from the ancient world, we set sail southwest for Malaga. Volunteer to help the crew hoist and set the sails. The feeling of helming a 68m sailing ship with the sensation as she responds to the command of the wheel is something to savor forever.  There´s nothing our crew like more then to share their knowledge of sailing with our guests, and they will encourage you to get actively involved in sailing the ship.

Knot classes are a great way to learn a new skill whilst sharing sailing stories with shipmates, and if the weather allows there's the opportunity to go up the mast or relax on the bowsprit. A drink at sunset on the deck is the perfect way to round off each day.

On arrival in Malaga, it’s time to celebrate. Share stories or your voyage with fellow shipmates during our celebratory deck BBQ party before disembarking.

After disembarking, consider exploring Malaga, with its rich maritime history dating back to the Phoenician period. Visit Alcazaba and Gibralfaro the Moorish fortress complex with stunning views of the city and coastline; or for those with art in mind, how about discovering the birthplace of the renowned artist Picasso and explore the Museum showcasing his works and influence on the city.

Weather:
May in Malaga offers fantastic weather, with temperatures ranging from 17°C to 25°C (63°F to 77°F).
