Voyage description

Join us for an extraordinary 5-day voyage through the heart of the Azores, starting and ending on the island of Terceira, with stops at Pico and São Jorge. Sail aboard the historic tall ship, the Santa Maria Manuela, and experience the natural beauty and maritime traditions of the Azorean islands.

Your adventure begins in Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira’s UNESCO World Heritage city. From here, we set sail towards the island of Pico, home to Portugal’s highest mountain and famed for its rich whaling history. On Pico, you can explore the island’s volcanic landscapes, visit its UNESCO-protected vineyards, or hike the slopes of Mount Pico for a truly spectacular view.

Next, we make our way to São Jorge, a hidden gem in the Azores known for its dramatic cliffs, green hills, and iconic “fajãs” (coastal plains). Here, take a moment to enjoy the local cheese, considered one of the finest in Portugal, and hike along breathtaking trails with panoramic views of the Atlantic.

The voyage concludes back on Terceira, where you’ll have a chance to reflect on your journey while sailing into the picturesque harbor of Angra do Heroísmo. Whether you’re working with the crew to hoist the sails or enjoying the peaceful atmosphere on deck, this is a sailing experience unlike any other.

The second night of our trip was sky clear enough so we could see all those stars and Milkyway. And we were so lucky that at the same moment, we reached the place with a lot of plankton that was fluorescent. It was a very magic moment.

Many small moments with different crew members made this navigation magical: share the spectacle of a sunset or dolphins playing at the front of the boat, participate in maneuvers, ...etc

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
