Voyage description

Embark on a remarkable 5-day voyage aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, exploring some of the most remote and untouched islands of the Azores. Starting and ending in Terceira, this sailing adventure takes you to the wild beauty of Flores and the small but captivating island of Corvo. Experience the thrill of hands-on sailing while discovering breathtaking landscapes and rich Azorean heritage.

We begin our journey in Angra do Heroísmo, a UNESCO World Heritage city on Terceira. From here, we set sail westward to Flores, known for its dramatic waterfalls, volcanic lakes, and lush green valleys. On Flores, you’ll have the opportunity to hike to the famous Lagoas (lakes), explore the island’s serene nature reserves, or visit the village of Fajã Grande, Europe’s westernmost settlement.

Our next stop is the island of Corvo, the smallest of the Azores but full of character. Explore its picturesque caldera, visit the charming village of Vila do Corvo, and learn about the island’s unique culture and history. With only a few hundred residents, Corvo offers a peaceful retreat from modern life.

The voyage concludes as we return to Terceira, sailing back into the harbor of Angra do Heroísmo. Throughout the journey, you’ll have the chance to actively participate in sailing the ship, from setting the sails to navigating the open ocean. Whether you choose to get involved or simply relax on deck, this voyage offers a unique way to explore the Azores by sea.

The second night of our trip was sky clear enough so we could see all those stars and Milkyway. And we were so lucky that at the same moment, we reached the place with a lot of plankton that was fluorescent. It was a very magic moment.

Many small moments with different crew members made this navigation magical: share the spectacle of a sunset or dolphins playing at the front of the boat, participate in maneuvers, ...etc

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
