Time to relax
On the second leg of the Tall Ships Races participants may set the competition aside and focus on what really matters: getting together with those sharing the same passion for the sea in a setting of unique beauty.
Navigating the fjords
Departing from Denmark in the company of their peers, Santa Maria Manuela heads the north towards the impressive Norwegian fjords. It will be five days of a non-competitive leg, of pure relaxation, good food, companionship with the crew of the other ships and admiring mind-blowing natural landscapes - dazzling fjords, monumental cliffs, picturesque fishing ports and sublime bays.
The large sailboats taking part in the Tall Ships will stop in a number of ports in southern Norway during this cruise-in-company leg. Among these it is worth mentioning the fishing port of Sirevag, where Santa Maria Manuela will anchor to participate in a lively nautical festival. Later, the ships will cross among other paradisiacal scenarios Lysefjord, one of the most beautiful fjords of Europe, where the famous promontory of Preikestolen is located - a cliff with a 600 meters high flat top . The finishing line lies further north in Stavanger - a fascinating city with an historic centre with its 18th and 19th century wooden houses and Norway's oldest cathedral which is about to celebrate one thousand years.
Christened in 1937, and after many decades making history as one of the flagships of cod fishing – this ship transported thousands of sailors to Newfoundland and Greenland – the renovated Santa Maria Manuela is currently a sailboat with extraordinary conditions for nautical journeys and sea training.
On board, passengers will be offered a full navigation experience and may participate in a number of activities – handling the helm, hoisting and lowering the sails, reading nautical charts, training a number of sailors' knots, in 4-hour shifts.
But there is lots of fun aside from the work of cabin boy. Games, fishing and barbecues on deck, movie sessions in the multimedia room, or simply reading a good book, in the open, under the warm sol, or inside in the comfortable and elegant cabins, are nice ways to spend the days navigating. And when the ship anchors or docks this offer may include also, sea diving, kayak or stand up paddle. An unforgettable experience.
