Voyage description

Escale à Sète is the largest annual celebration of maritime traditions in southern France, attracting over 250,000 visitors. The Santa Maria Manuela takes centre stage among other historic ships, with a lively atmosphere of traditional French music, food, and festivities.

After a week of maritime shows, sea shanties, and port activities, we set sail for Spain’s Escale à Castellon festival.

As we sail southwest, you’re invited to help hoist the sails, take the helm, and experience the rhythm of life at sea. Our crew love sharing their seamanship skills and will encourage you to get hands-on. Join knot-tying workshops, climb the mast (weather permitting), or relax on the bowsprit. Sunset drinks on deck offer the perfect end to each day.

We’ll sail with the wind, possibly heading south towards the Balearic Islands or, if weather conditions allow, stopping for a swim or enjoying the ship’s kayaks and paddleboards.

Our voyage ends in Castellon, where the lively maritime festival recently welcomed over 270,000 visitors. Before returning home, take time to explore the local cathedral, the 60-metre El Fadrí bell tower, or the historic Kanamo Market building.

VIEW CABINS

*Travellers must be between 14 and 80 years old on the date of sailing to be eligible for the trip.

  • Sète is a port city on the southern coast of France, known for its close connection to the sea. Arriving during Escale à Sète — the city’s maritime festival — adds a special dimension, with traditional boats, music, and events celebrating maritime heritage.

The city is built around canals, giving it a unique character often compared to a small-scale Venice. Walking through the centre, visitors will find seafood markets, local cafés, and bridges connecting different neighbourhoods.

Sète’s connection to the Mediterranean is also present in its cuisine. Oysters from the Thau Lagoon, grilled fish, and regional dishes such as tielle sétoise (an octopus pie) are often found on local menus.

The maritime festival brings together ships from around the world, and the docks are filled with music, exhibitions, and crafts, offering a chance to experience Sète’s maritime culture up close.

  • Castellón, a charming coastal city in Spain, is a must-visit destination for lovers of culture and tradition. Our arrival will coincide with the vibrant Escala a Castelló, part of the Maritime Festivals, a celebration of the city’s connection to the sea with parades, maritime activities, and a lively atmosphere.

The city also enchants visitors with its historic center, where you can explore the impressive Co-Cathedral of Santa Maria and the iconic Fadrí, a bell tower offering panoramic views of the city. The Central Market is a must-see, brimming with fresh produce and authentic Mediterranean flavors.

For relaxation, Castellón’s golden beaches, such as Playa del Gurugú, invite you for a stroll or a refreshing dip. And, of course, you can’t miss trying the local delicacies, like arroz a banda, at one of the seaside restaurants.

The first time we helped the crew put up the sails was magical.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
