Voyage description

Embark on this sailing and guided hiking voyage through the Canary Islands which blends the freedom of the ocean with some of the archipelago’s most dramatic landscapes.Tenerife promises volcanic slopes and high mountain ridges with forest paths above the clouds. La Gomera offers quieter, unspoiled terrain, where trails cross the ancient laurel forests of Garajonay National Park and descend into deep Atlantic-facing ravines. Next, sail to La Palma, “La Isla Bonita,” where hiking routes traverse volcanic craters, pine forests and the vast landscapes of Caldera de Taburiente National Park.Together, these islands create a journey of striking contrasts — volcanic summits, cloud forests and ocean horizons — each day framed by life aboard the iconic Santa Maria Manuela.Along the way, you’ll have the chance to participate in ship duties, from hoisting sails to steering the helm. Between the exertion of the days on foot, relax on deck, climb the mast for breathtaking views, or simply enjoy the rhythm of life at sea. The voyage concludes back in Tenerife, ready to welcome you with its vibrant energy and natural beauty.

SAILING ACTIVITY

Aboard the Santa Maria Manuela, we offer immersive, hands-on sailing experiences designed for all levels—no prior experience required. Many guests are new to sailing, and our professional crew is on hand to ensure the experience is both rewarding and enjoyable.

You are warmly invited to take part in as much or as little as you wish. From helming the ship and trimming sails to joining night watches, participation is entirely optional—but always encouraged.Weather permitting, your first day at sea will involve working alongside the crew to hoist the sails and learn how to trim them for optimal performance. You may even have the opportunity to help change course by tacking or gybing. Taking the helm—standing at the wheel behind the bridge with 68 metres of deck and four masts stretching ahead—is a truly unforgettable experience. As we sail through the fjords, conditions can be calm and winds unpredictable. In these narrow passages, often surrounded by steep cliffs and submerged rocks, we will proceed under engine. This offers a different kind of enjoyment: time to climb the rigging, relax on the bowsprit, or simply take in the dramatic scenery as the ship glides towards her destination. There is always something to engage with on board, whether it’s a knot-tying workshop, a guided visit to the engine room, or learning about navigation and weather systems with the captain on the bridge. After a fulfilling day at sea, unwind with a drink at the deck bar before dinner is served.
