Voyage description

Step aboard the Santa Maria Manuela for a 5-night voyage from the southern coast of Sardinia to the picturesque Ligurian port of La Spezia. This passage offers a rich mix of coastal sailing and open-water navigation through the Tyrrhenian Sea, ideal for those eager to experience life at sea aboard a historic tall ship.

Departing from Cagliari, a city steeped in Mediterranean history and flanked by majestic hills and salt flats, we set a course northward along the rugged west coast of Sardinia. Weather and wind permitting, we may follow the coast before crossing the open sea past Corsica and into the sheltered waters of the Ligurian Gulf.

During the voyage, the crew will invite you to take part in the sailing experience. Hoist and trim the sails, take the helm, join knot-tying workshops, or even climb the mast. Whether you're eager to get hands-on or prefer to relax and observe, there's space aboard for both active learning and quiet reflection.

Our journey concludes in La Spezia, gateway to the famed Cinque Terre and known for its maritime heritage and pastel-hued coastline. The combination of hands-on seamanship and changing seascapes makes this voyage a perfect blend of adventure and tranquility.

VIEW CABINS

*Travellers must be between 14 and 80 years old on the date of sailing to be eligible for the trip.

  • Cagliari, the sunlit capital of Sardinia, blends sea views, ancient history, and the relaxed rhythm of island life. Built across several hills and facing the Gulf of Angels, the city invites you to explore cobbled streets, discover Roman ruins, and enjoy beaches just a short distance from the centre.

At the top, the historic Castello district offers narrow alleys, old stone buildings, and viewpoints with wide views over the city and the coastline. Further down, the Marina and Stampace neighbourhoods are home to cafés, local shops, and traditional piazzas.

Cagliari’s long history can be seen throughout the city, from the Roman amphitheatre carved into the rock to baroque churches and noble palaces. For those who enjoy nature, Molentargius Park is a peaceful place where flamingos nest, and Poetto Beach stretches for several kilometres, ideal for swimming or an afternoon walk.

Whether for its heritage, local food, or coastline, Cagliari offers an authentic and calm experience of Sardinia.

  • Nestled between green hills and the blue Mediterranean, La Spezia is a charming port with a rich cultural heritage. Its tree-lined seafront promenade invites you for peaceful strolls by the water, while the lively city center is filled with historic squares, cozy cafés and a market brimming with local produce.

La Spezia is the main gateway to the famous Cinque Terre, five colorful villages nestled in the cliffs of the Italian Riviera, a paradise for nature and photography lovers. For lovers of history and culture, La Spezia is home to the Naval Museum, which pays homage to the region's strong maritime tradition.

The strategic location also allows easy access to other must-see destinations, such as Portovenere, with its picturesque houses and the impressive Church of St. Peter overlooking the sea, and the charming town of Lerici, with its medieval castle and quiet beaches.

Whether as a starting point for coastal adventures or a place to enjoy its relaxed pace, La Spezia is an Italian jewel waiting to be discovered.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
