  • Join the crew in sailing activities and discover the traditions of life aboard a tall ship
  • Enjoy long June evenings on deck and changing views of the French coast

Weather conditions

June generally brings mild weather and long daylight hours to northern France. Expect a mixture of sunshine, cloud and occasional rain, with sea breezes making it feel cooler on deck, particularly in the evenings. The Seine may feel more sheltered than the open Channel. Bring layers, a warm fleece, a waterproof jacket and comfortable shoes with good grip, as well as sunglasses and sunscreen.

Voyage description

Join the Santa Maria Manuela in Dunkirk for a voyage along France’s northern coast, arriving in Rouen in time for the opening of the Armada, a spectacular gathering of tall ships from around the world.

Leaving Dunkirk’s maritime harbor behind, we head southwest through the English Channel towards the Seine estuary. Settle into life on board, enjoy the long June days and join the crew in hoisting the sails, learning knots or taking a turn at the helm. Participation is always optional, with time simply to relax and watch the coastline unfold.

The journey takes on a different rhythm as we enter the Seine and make our way upriver towards Rouen. Green riverbanks, villages and wooded slopes replace the open horizon, offering a memorable approach to this historic city. Our voyage ends as the Armada begins, leaving you perfectly placed to continue exploring the celebrations independently after disembarkation.

  • Dunkirk, set on France’s northern coast beside the North Sea, is a city where maritime heritage, Flemish character, and wide sandy beaches come together. Its harbour and waterfront reflect a long connection with the sea, while the historic belfry, lively squares, and welcoming cafés offer a taste of local life. Discovering the city’s maritime museums reveals stories of fishing, trade, and seafaring, alongside the remarkable events of the 1940 evacuation.

Beyond the harbor, Malo-les-Bains offers an expansive beach and a lively promenade, perfect for a seaside stroll or a relaxed meal with sea views. Explore the coastal dunes, sample regional specialities, or discover the landscapes that shaped this corner of French Flanders. With its blend of history, coastal scenery, and warm northern hospitality, Dunkirk is an inviting destination to explore.

The first time we helped the crew put up the sails was magical.

March 2025

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
