Voyage description

After a glorious Armada in Rouen, join the Santa Maria Manuela for a voyage between two destinations with a rich maritime heritage. From the banks of the Seine to the Atlantic harbor of La Rochelle, this six-night journey brings together river scenery, coastal sailing and life aboard a historic tall ship.

Our voyage begins with the passage down the Seine, exchanging Rouen’s waterfront for green riverbanks, villages and the widening estuary. As we reach the English Channel, the open sea sets a new rhythm, taking us west along the Normandy coast, around Brittany and south towards La Rochelle.

Join the crew in hoisting the sails, practice your knots or take a turn at the helm, with guidance along the way. Participation is optional, and there is plenty of time to enjoy the sea views, meet fellow guests and settle into life on board. Long summer days provide a memorable setting for this journey from the excitement of the Armada to the open Atlantic.

Our destination is La Rochelle, a city shaped by centuries of seafaring. Its famous harbour towers, historic quays and lively streets offer an inviting setting for independent exploration after disembarkation.

Our destination is La Rochelle, a city shaped by centuries of seafaring. Its famous harbour towers, historic quays and lively streets offer an inviting setting for independent exploration after disembarkation.

  • Rouen has a rich maritime and cultural heritage, and its historic centre, with its half-timbered houses, cobbled streets and magnificent Gothic cathedral, is the beating heart of Normandy’s capital. Closely linked to the River Seine and centuries of maritime trade, the city becomes one of the world’s great sailing destinations during the Rouen Armada, when magnificent tall ships gather along the quays for ten days of festivities, concerts and fireworks.

Combining medieval architecture, artistic heritage and a lively waterfront atmosphere, Rouen offers an unforgettable setting for Santa Maria Manuela’s visit. Historic yet dynamic, the city’s close relationship with the Seine gives it a distinctive character and makes arriving under sail especially memorable.

The first time we helped the crew put up the sails was magical.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
