Voyage description

Santa Maria Manuela returns to Norway!

After the 2018 journey to the Lofoten Islands and Tromsø for the filming of Terra Nova — a tribute to the Portuguese cod-fishing voyages to Greenland and Newfoundland — the iconic sailing ship is back in Norwegian waters.

This voyage blends tradition, sail training, and environmental awareness — with cod as the historic link between Portugal and Norway.
Sailing through majestic fjords and the open sea, Santa Maria Manuela once again shows the strength and soul of Portuguese maritime heritage.

VIEW CABINS

*Travellers must be between 14 and 80 years old on the date of sailing to be eligible for the trip.

  •  Perched across a cluster of islands where the fjords meet the sea, Ålesund is one of Norway’s most picturesque coastal towns. Rebuilt in striking Art Nouveau style after a fire in 1904, its elegant architecture, winding streets, and colourful facades create a unique charm.

Surrounded by mountains and waterways, Ålesund is a gateway to the fjords and a hub of maritime heritage. Enjoy panoramic views from Mount Aksla, explore local museums, and savour fresh seafood straight from the Atlantic. With its beauty, culture, and coastal spirit, Ålesund is a perfect blend of nature and Nordic charm.

  • Trondheim, once the Viking capital of Norway, is a vibrant city where history and modern life meet. At its centre stands the majestic Nidaros Cathedral, a gothic masterpiece and important pilgrimage site. Stroll along the colourful wooden wharfs of the old town, explore local markets, or visit fascinating museums celebrating Norway’s culture, music, and maritime heritage.

Set beside a scenic fjord and surrounded by forested hills, Trondheim offers a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. With its lively cafés, fresh local cuisine, and rich historical roots, it’s a captivating stop on any Norwegian voyage.

  • Spread across four scenic islands, Kristiansund is a lively coastal town with deep maritime roots. Once the centre of Norway’s dried cod trade, its history is tied to the sea — a legacy still alive in its harbours, fishing boats, and the popular Clipfish Museum.

Stroll along colourful waterfronts, explore charming neighbourhoods, or take the unique Sundbåt boat taxi between islands. With fresh seafood, friendly locals, and a blend of tradition and modern culture, Kristiansund offers a genuine taste of life on Norway’s rugged Atlantic coast.

The first time we helped the crew put up the sails was magical.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
