Voyage description
Our adventure begins in Ponta Delgada, the capital of São Miguel and the main port of the Azores. Before embarking, make sure you haven’t missed the famous Sete Cidades and Lagoa do Fogo, the steaming fumaroles of Furnas, or relaxed in the thermal waters of Ferraria. National Geographic named the Azores the most beautiful place in the world, and there is no better way to travel from the archipelago to Lisbon than aboard the Santa Maria Manuela.
This 780-nautical-mile blue water crossing is a classic tall ship sailing experience. Our crew loves to share their knowledge and will encourage you to get actively involved in the ship’s life. Volunteers to hoist and trim the sails are always welcome, and steering a 68m sailing ship as she responds to the wheel is something to savor.
On board, you can learn sailor’s knots, challenge yourself to climb the mast, or simply relax in the bowsprit netting. If the weather allows, each sunset on deck is best enjoyed with a drink in hand and an unforgettable view.
Lisbon awaits, as we sail up the Tagus River, passing under the 25 de Abril Bridge before docking. After disembarking, immerse yourself in Lisbon’s vibrant culture, with its Fado music, historic neighborhoods like Alfama, and stunning viewpoints. Don’t miss the Belém Tower and the Jerónimos Monastery, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Ponta Delgada, the vibrant capital of São Miguel in the Azores, captivates visitors with its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. The historic center, featuring the impressive Church of São Sebastião and the City Gates, invites exploration of its colonial architecture. Don't miss the chance to stroll through the António Borges Garden, where lush flora intertwines with serene pathways.
For food lovers, the famous Furnas stew is a must-try experience, along with the freshest fish and seafood dishes. Local markets, such as the Mercado da Graça, provide a true immersion into the flavors of the land, showcasing regional fruits, cheeses, and wines. Ponta Delgada is undoubtedly a destination that beautifully combines history, nature, and culinary delights in perfect harmony.
Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is a city rich in history and flavor. Its winding, narrow streets of the older parts of town will pull you in, and if you’re lucky you may hear the sound of fado drifting from small taverns. The tiles—those colorful azulejos—tell stories of the past as they cover walls and buildings.
Take some time to visit the Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery. Both are UNESCO sites, tied to Portugal’s maritime history. You’ll feel the weight of centuries when you stand in front of them, thinking back to the Age of Discoveries
Hungry? Head to a local bakery and grab a pastel de nata. Trust us, it’s the kind of treat you’ll think about long after you’ve left. If you have time, stroll up to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte for one of the best views in the city. The rooftops, the Tagus River, the way the light hits it all—it’s all breathtaking. Lisbon’s mix of the old and the new makes it a place worth exploring. Wander through neighborhoods, grab a coffee, sit in the sun.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
