Voyage description

Embark on an unforgettable voyage from Funchal to Tenerife, with a stop at the idyllic island of La Gomera. This journey takes you through the stunning waters of the Atlantic, where you’ll experience the joy of life at sea aboard the historic tall ship Santa Maria Manuela.

Setting sail from Funchal, we head southwest towards La Gomera, an island known for its lush forests, volcanic cliffs, and quiet harbors. You’ll have the chance to go ashore and explore its charming villages or take in the breathtaking views from its mountainous trails.

Back on board, take part in the daily rhythm of sailing, whether it’s adjusting the sails, taking the helm, or simply enjoying the peaceful moments on deck. Weather permitting, climb the mast for a spectacular view or relax in the bowsprit net, feeling the ocean breeze beneath you.

The final leg of our journey takes us towards Tenerife, where we sail along its dramatic coastline before reaching Santa Cruz. Here, you can explore the city’s lively streets, visit the historic La Laguna, or take a trip up to Teide National Park, home to Spain’s highest peak.

As our voyage comes to an end, we celebrate the adventure with newfound friends, sharing stories under the starry sky.

  • Funchal, the capital of Madeira, offers a perfect mix of maritime beauty, rich culture, and incredible food. Located along the Atlantic coast, it’s known for its stunning harbor and the surrounding crystal-clear waters.

Wander through its cobbled streets and vibrant markets. The Mercado dos Lavradores is the heart of the city's culinary scene, where you’ll find fresh local produce, exotic fruits, and Madeira’s famous black scabbardfish. Pair that with a taste of bolo do caco, a local garlic bread, or indulge in a glass of Madeira wine—renowned worldwide for its unique flavor. Funchal’s cultural side shines through its architecture, such as the 15th-century Funchal Cathedral, and its artistic touches, like the colorful murals in the old town.

For maritime history, a visit to the Museum of the History of Madeira or the replica of Christopher Columbus’s ship, the Santa Maria, brings the island’s deep connection to the sea to life.

These highlights and so many more make Funchal a true feast for the senses, both on the water and off.

  • La Gomera, one of the lesser-known gems of the Canary Islands, offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The island is a true paradise for nature lovers, with its lush valleys, steep cliffs, and the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Garajonay National Park, home to ancient laurel forests.

Visitors can explore charming villages like Agulo and Vallehermoso, where traditional Canarian architecture and the friendliness of the locals create a welcoming atmosphere. For those seeking adventure, La Gomera boasts excellent hiking trails, offering breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring islands. With its serene beauty and warm hospitality, La Gomera invites you to experience the magic of the Canaries away from the crowds.

  • Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, offers a vibrant mix of culture, nature, and tradition. The island is known for its towering Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak, which provides stunning views and hiking trails for nature lovers.

In the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, you can explore colonial streets, museums, and historic churches. Another highlight is the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, famous for its colorful carnival, one of the largest in the world. In terms of cuisine, Tenerife offers specialties such as gofio, papas arrugadas with mojo sauce, and freshly grilled fish.

I won't forget the long-suffering patient crew member who taught me to tie a double bowline. It took ages but I finally got it, and was able to teach another passenger.

Plein de moments magiques pendant le voyage. C'était impressionnant de voir le bateau depuis le zodiac quand on se trouvait à environ 50 ou 100 m du navire. Super la baignade en pleine mer.
